One and the Same Statements

A one-and-the-same statement is required when two different names are shown for a single owner in a title or registration transaction. A one-and-the-same statement must contain an original (wet) signature. If the statement is a copy, the dealer must include a certification that the statement is a true copy of the original.

DMV has collected and archived one-and-the-same statements from businesses over the years and has been using these statements when processing transactions. DMV can no longer sustain this practice.

As of August 1st, 2025, if a business is listed in a vehicle transaction under different names or with variations in their name, a one-and-the-same statement will be needed to process the transaction.

Common examples and scenarios involving one-and-the-same statements are shown in this document: One-and-the-Same Statements.pdf

See Chapter E of the Title and Registration Handbook for more information.
