Our Veteran Lobbyist, Darrell Fuller, has been working the halls of the Capitol, and behind the scenes, opposing proposals to create a new sales tax on vehicles. With the end of session only a few days away (June 29), the most recent Democratic plan still includes two new vehicle sales taxes (see page two of the PDF). They are calling them a vehicle “transfer tax”<\/u><\/strong> rather than a “sales tax”, hoping you \u2014 and the public \u2014 won’t notice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The Democratic proposal includes a new two percent sales tax on new vehicles<\/u><\/strong>, AND a new one percent sales tax on used vehicles over $10,000<\/u><\/strong>. We don’t yet know if the tax is on the price of the vehicle before or after considering the trade-in. <\/p>\n\n\n\n It is unclear if any Republicans will support either vehicle sales tax \u2014 most of them are strongly opposed. But the Democrats have the majority in both Chambers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n We strongly encourage you to contact your state Senator and state Representative today. If you don’t know who they are, you can find them here<\/a>. Ask them to OPPOSE any proposal with a NEW SALES TAX ON VEHICLES.<\/p>\n\n\n\n We suggest you also send your opinion on the TWO NEW VEHICLE SALES TAXES to the Legislative Leadership.
