Washington St. in Portland. The office\u2019s final day of operation is Jan. 31. The closure comes following several maintenance issues with the facility.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cWe have high standards for our offices, and the facilities must meet certain expectations for our customers and staff,\u201d DMV Administrator Amy Joyce said. \u201cAs a tenant of Mall 205, we\u2019ve had to consistently deal with facility issues. We\u2019ve worked with the mall owners trying to address these concerns, but they continue. Our lease is up Feb. 28, so we made the difficult decision to close the office and find a more suitable location.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n The Mall 205 DMV has been at that location since 2015 and is one of DMV\u2019s busiest offices, serving nearly 95,000 customers in 2024. The office\u2019s 18 employees have been reassigned to nearby DMV offices to balance customers\u2019 needs. We are reconfiguring some existing offices to accommodate additional counters and staff.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Additionally, the Sandy DMV<\/a> at 37395 Highway 26 will return to operating five days a week beginning Feb. 18. The office has been operating three days a week since Feb. 27, 2024, due to staffing shortages.<\/p>\n\n\n\n For a list of alternate DMV locations, visit oregondmv.com<\/a>. You can walk into any DMV office, make an appointment at a nearby DMV location, take advantage of more than 20 online transactions at DMV2U<\/a>, or visit one of our recently launched self-serve express kiosks<\/a> in nine select Fred Meyer stores statewide for vehicle registration renewals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n DMV is committed to finding a new location and has been searching for months but anticipates it could be more than a year before a new office opens.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The closure comes at a significant time for DMV and our customers, with the May 7 REAL ID<\/a> federal deadline approaching. Starting May 7, everyone 18 years and older will be required to present a REAL ID or a federally accepted alternative \u2013 like a passport, passport card or military ID \u2013 to board a flight within the U.S. or to access certain federal facilities. To get a REAL ID-compliant card you must visit a DMV office and bring original documents that prove your identity, date of birth, residence address and lawful status in the U.S.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cAs the REAL ID enforcement date gets closer, we know there’s going to be a big rush at DMV offices, and we encourage people to get in sooner than later,\u201d said Joyce. \u201cFortunately, the 2024 Legislature authorized DMV to hire 26 staff to work in field offices exclusively for REAL ID transactions.
