As gas prices soar, Oregon will give you $7,500 to buy an electric car. Here’s how

Electric vehicles are having a moment.
With gas prices rising sharply, climate change fears on the front-burner and the increasing range of electric vehicles featured in multiple Super Bowl advertisements, the idea of plugging in instead of filling up could be reaching critical mass.    
Oregon wants to help push that trend along. A state program offers a $2,500 to $7,500 rebate to buy or lease an electric or plug-in hybrid vehicle, up from previous years. In addition, it’s possible to get a $7,500 tax credit from the federal government.
