HB 4079 creates a three percent “luxury tax” on many items, including:
L New or used motor vehicle above $80,000
L New recreational vehicle above $125,000
L New all-terrain vehicle above $7,500
L New snowmobile above $15,000
L New motorized recreational watercraft above $125,000
An amendment with more details can be found here. The -4 (dash four) amendment basically replaces the original bill.
The tax does not apply to purchases for commercial or public use. The tax is not collected on out of state purchasers. The seller (dealer) appears to be responsible for determining if a purchase will be used for commercial or public use.
There is a public hearing scheduled on Tuesday, February 8th at 1:00 PM for this bill. OVDA encourages you to send in written testimony or sign up for live testimony to have your voice heard.
